Dear Colleagues and Friends,
What a great meeting we had 11-13 April 2024 in Toronto, Canada. It was great meeting so many colleagues again after the corona pandemic, and also feeling the passion and enthusiasm we all share in our quest to improve treatment options for patients with microtia. It is a great honor and privilege to take over from David Fisher as president for ISAR. I would again like to thank David Fisher and Leila Karsai, who together with InConference organized this successful meeting.
Microtia is also called a “ rare disease”, meaning that it does not occur frequently. Optimal treatment is complex and include optimalization of hearing while ear reconstruction is one of the most challenging surgical procedures in reconstructive plastic surgery. Subsequently, for optimal treatment they should be treated by experts. At ISAR our aim is to bring this expertise together and make sure we keep everybody up to date with the most optimal treatment approaches.
It is a great honor to be spearheading this Society with the help of Stephane Guichard (Plastic Surgeon, Paris, France) and Sharon Cushing (ENT Surgeon, Toronto, Canada). Moreover, together with the local organizing committee (Moshe Kon, Myrthe Hol and Ietske Siemann) we will be hosting and organizing the next meeting in Utrecht the Netherlands in 2027. We will be sharing the exact dates in 2027 as quickly as possible. In this process we will work closely together with InConference.
We would like to thank all that attended the recent Congress in Toronto.
We look forward to seeing you all in Utrecht.
Prof Dr Corstiaan Breugem
President ISAR
