As your new President, I want to thank Prof. Moshe Kon for his leadership since our previous meeting in Beijing in 2017. While we were unable to meet in person in Toronto as planned, the recent virtual conference, organized by the last Executive Committee and the team at In Conference, was a success. Many thanks to our keynote speakers Blake Papsin, Maria Fernanda Valotta, Yilin Cao and Chen Zung Chung for their inspirational presentations and all our presenters for sharing their experiences and recent research with us. The global pandemic has not diminished the energy and excitement within our society.
Congratulations to Dr. Joe Dusseldorp to whom was awarded the Burt Brent Prize for his presentation: The Seven Steps of Computer-Assisted Reconstructive Ear Surgery: Aiding Intra-Operative Decision Making and Standardizing Outcomes.
The future of the society requires the maintenance of its membership, and I encourage all non-member attendees of our recent meeting to consider membership themselves.
We do not yet have a firm date for our next meeting, but we plan to hold an in-person congress sooner than the typical three-year interval, perhaps as early as Autumn 2023 or the Spring of 2024. In the interim, stay safe and keep up the excellent work.
August 28, 1950 – January 2, 2022
I was saddened to learn of the sudden death of Dr.Saturo Nagata on January 2, 2022. He was one of the founders of modern microtia surgery and introduced the two stage technique, today the state of the art technique for ear reconstruction with cartilage . He was a teacher for many of us and will be dearly missed as a friend and colleague.
On behalf of all members of ISAR I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his wife Nobuko, his family, friends and colleagues.
I would like to share his obituary with you, which you can find by clicking here.
Prof. Moshe Kon, MD, PhD
